Leave room for your next move
You can put the setting, roles and response preference into an ordinary chat message. That is a writing approach, not a special command syntax. Avoid relying on brackets or slash commands unless the interface explains them.
- Choose a character whose interests or personality suit the situation.
- State the setting and immediate task: a station office, a mislabeled parcel and two possible destinations.
- Define the roles: the AI plays the adult station archivist; you play an adult traveler asking for help.
- Set a boundary: the character should not decide your actions or write your dialogue.
- Ask for one useful opening response, such as a question about the parcel's label.
Start with a short scene-setting message
Try a brief like this: We are two adults at a fictional railway station after closing. You are the archivist, and I am trying to return a parcel with an unreadable address. Keep replies concise, ask one question at a time, and leave my words and decisions to me.
You can then answer the question instead of adding another paragraph of instructions. If you want a mystery, introduce a clue. If you want ordinary conversation, discuss how the characters would solve the problem together. Neither direction needs explicit material to remain interesting.
Correct the detail that broke the story
When a reply contradicts the scene, name the mismatch directly: the parcel is still sealed, so neither character knows what is inside. Then state the next action you want to take. This is clearer than arguing with the character about whether its earlier answer was right.
Before continuing later, prepare a short recap of the setting, the last agreed event and the unresolved question. We recommend keeping that note yourself. A memory feature should not be treated as a promise that every story detail will remain available indefinitely.
Questions
Can I roleplay with an existing DarLink character?
Yes. You can interact with existing AI companions as well as create your own. Read the character's premise and introduce a situation that gives both roles something to contribute.
How do I stop the AI from writing my dialogue?
Ask explicitly that your speech, actions and choices remain yours. If it happens again, point to the particular line and restate the boundary; an instruction is helpful, not a guarantee.
Do I need a special roleplay command?
A plain-language opening can describe the scene and your preferences. Do not assume an undocumented command, formatting convention or hidden mode is necessary to begin.
What should I include in a story recap?
Include who is present, where they are, what happened most recently and what has not been decided. Leave out old details that no longer affect the next exchange.
Can I rely on advice given during roleplay?
Treat it as fictional AI dialogue. A character speaking confidently does not make its factual statements reliable or turn the conversation into qualified professional advice.
